Mosque Chandelier Guide: Sizing, Tiers and Materials from a Mosque Chandelier Manufacturer
A mosque chandelier shapes both the lighting and the architectural identity of a prayer hall.

The right chandelier lights the area under the dome evenly, does not tire the eyes of the congregation and becomes part of the mosque's architecture. In this guide, Yön Avize, a mosque chandelier manufacturer working in Turkey and abroad since 2013, explains which decisions a mosque chandelier project needs and in what order.
1. The dome and ceiling set the size
The diameter of a mosque chandelier is never chosen at random. The inner diameter of the dome, the height of the drum and the hanging height above the floor are considered together. As a rule, the main chandelier is proportional to the dome, and the lowest ring hangs comfortably above the heads of the congregation. That is why we ask for the dome diameter, the ceiling height and, where possible, the architectural drawings before starting.
Small prayer rooms often need a single-tier chandelier of 60 to 100 cm. Medium-sized mosques usually take two-tier chandeliers between 120 and 200 cm, and large domed mosques three-tier chandeliers of 300, 400 or even 500 cm. For very large mosques we design custom tier layouts up to 700 cm in diameter.
2. Tiers: what does "300 cm 3+1" mean?
Mosque chandeliers are usually made of concentric rings and are named by their tier layout. A "300 cm 3+1" chandelier has three rings of 3 m, 2 m and 1 m in diameter plus a small lamp of about 30 cm at the bottom. A "200 cm 2+1" chandelier has rings of 2 m and 1 m plus the bottom lamp. This naming lets the mosque committee and the manufacturer agree on size quickly and clearly.
3. Amount of light: lamps per metre
The number of lamps grows with the diameter. Our standard at Yön Avize is about 10 lamps for every metre of ring diameter: 10 lamps on a 1 m ring and 20 on a 2 m ring. A "300 cm 3+1" chandelier therefore has 30 + 20 + 10 lamps plus the bottom lamp, 61 light points in total. Lamp type (oil-lamp style, lantern or LED) and colour temperature are chosen to suit the interior and the amount of daylight.
4. Calligraphy or patterns?
In modern mosque chandeliers the ring bands are laser-cut. Calligraphy models carry Quranic verses written along the ring in Islamic calligraphy, which become readable when lit from behind. Pattern models use geometric and Islamic motifs. The verses, calligraphy style and colours are always chosen with the mosque committee. Series such as the Ottoman model, Vision and modern LED rings give the same mosque very different characters.
5. Materials: brass or stainless steel
Mosque chandeliers hang high, run for many years and are hard to service, so we build their frames from brass or stainless steel. Brass gives a classic, warm look, while stainless steel offers different surface colours with a long life and easy maintenance. Crystal, glass and acrylic details are added according to the design.
6. 3D approval, production and installation
Once the dimensions are clear, the chandelier is designed in 3D on photos or drawings of the mosque and sent to the mosque committee for approval. After approval it is made in our workshop in Tekkeköy, Samsun, packed in parts and shipped. Our own team installs the chandelier and completes the lighting tests on site.
7. Mosque projects abroad
Besides Turkey, we have completed projects in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Algeria, Belgium and Georgia. For projects abroad we work from architectural drawings, build the chandelier in modules suited to shipping and install it on site. We also prepare proposals for mosque and Islamic centre projects in the Gulf, North Africa and Europe.
Frequently asked questions
What do you need to quote a mosque chandelier? The inner dome diameter, ceiling and drum height, interior photos of the mosque and any architectural drawings.
How long does production take? It depends on the size and number of tiers; a firm schedule is shared after the 3D design is approved.
