Since 2013, Yön Avize has designed, manufactured and installed mosque chandeliers from its own workshop in Tekkeköy, Samsun, Türkiye. Our first major project in Algeria was the 12-metre chandelier for the Abdelhamid Ben Badis Mosque in Oran. The 12-metre chandelier at Abdelhamid Ben Badis Mosque, Oran
For the Abdelhamid Ben Badis Mosque, completed in 2015, we designed a 12-metre chandelier to match the scale of the building. It was manufactured in our Samsun workshop, shipped to Algeria and installed on site by Yön Avize.
At this scale a chandelier is treated less as a light fitting and more as part of the dome's architecture. During design we work out the dome geometry, the suspension points, how the chandelier is divided into sections and the order in which those sections are assembled on site. Large chandeliers are shipped dismantled in numbered parts, which keeps transport safe and assembly orderly.

Design that fits North African architecture
North African mosques can combine Ottoman, Andalusian and Maghrebi influences, so we do not start from a single fixed model:
- Ornament: geometric star patterns, arch forms and the mosque's own decoration can be carried into the chandelier frame and plates.
- Calligraphy and verse plates: laser-cut Quranic verse plates are drawn to suit the dome size. The script (for example thuluth, kufic or Maghrebi) is chosen with the mosque's committee.
- Coherence: in large prayer halls, secondary chandeliers and wall sconces from the same series complete the main chandelier.
Sizing the chandelier to the dome
- Diameter: typically between one third and one half of the dome diameter; dome height and window level can change that ratio.
- Tiers: we make 2+1, 3+1 and 4+1 chandeliers. A "300 3+1" has rings of 3 m, 2 m and 1 m plus a 30 cm pendant lamp.
- Lamp count: 10 lamps per metre of ring diameter, plus one for the pendant lamp (300 3+1 → 61 lamps).
- Very large formats: as in Oran, non-standard sizes are designed specifically for the project.
- Suspension: for large chandeliers, the load capacity of the hanging point should be checked with the project's structural engineer.
For a first assessment we need the dome diameter and height, the prayer hall dimensions and a few interior photos.
Materials
We work in any material on request. The most common are brass (classic, warm finish), stainless steel (modern, durable frames), crystal (drops that scatter light between tiers), LED (efficient lighting behind the plates) and laser-cut Quranic verse plates.
How a project runs
- Measurements and photos: send drawings, dimensions and photos by WhatsApp or email.
- 3D design approval: the chandelier is shown in 3D inside your space; production starts only after your approval.
- Manufacturing in Samsun: in our own workshop; lead times for large projects are planned model by model.
- Packing and shipping: dismantled and packed as numbered parts. We offer three delivery options: ex-works (collection from our workshop), port-to-port and door-to-door.
- Installation: Our own installation team travels abroad and installs the chandelier on site.
