Wall lights are fixtures that complete the main lighting and add depth to a space. Placed in the right spot and at the right height, a wall light makes a corridor safer, gives reading light beside the bed and softens the atmosphere of a living room. In this guide we summarise what to consider when choosing and installing wall lights.
Mounting height: 150–170 cm above the floor
In general, wall lights are mounted 150–170 cm above the floor, slightly above eye level, so the light source does not cause glare. In rooms with high ceilings this can be raised a little; wall lights on the same wall should always be aligned.
Corridors and stairs
In corridors, wall lights are usually spaced every 2–3 metres so that light falls evenly on the floor. On stairs, they can follow the line of the steps along the slope. In narrow corridors, choose slim models that do not project far from the wall.
Beside the bed and for reading
Placing wall lights about 50–60 cm above the bedside table gives comfortable reading light. Models with adjustable heads make it easy to light a book without disturbing the person next to you.
Matching the chandelier
Choosing a wall light from the same series as the chandelier or linear pendant creates a coherent design language in the room. In our Wall & Floor Lamps category you will see that many models belong to the same series as our chandeliers; contact us for size and colour options.
